Trick To Enable or Disable USB Port on Office PC or Computer

USB (Universal Serial Bus) is a simplest form of Flash memory, which is famous, compact and cheap memory device.

I am writing this because in most of the IT companies the usb drives are being prevented from using thus the employee’s ipod and other gadgets remains useless.

The idea of the IT companies is to avoid their employees not to divert from their work, and just concentrate on their job alone, but its so stressed out and those guys don’t have relaxation. But its easy to dis-able the restriction and re-enable it on the fly.

Here is the trick to enable or disable USB port on office PC/computer.

To disable the access to USB port, in windows XP and 2000, follow the steps below

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate, and then click the following registry key:
4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor
5. In the right pane, double-click Start.
6. In the Value data box, type 4, click Hexadecimal (if it is not already selected), and then click OK.
7. Quit Registry Editor.

To re-enable a disabled port, follow these steps below

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate, and then click the following registry key:
4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor
5. In the right pane, double-click Start.
6. In the Value data box, type 3, click Hexadecimal (if it is not already selected), and then click OK.
7. Quit Registry Editor.

That’s it and the USB Device is in Your Control Now and you can enjoy Tweaking XP.
