Three Mistakes of my life is the third novel by Chetan Bhagat. Chetan Bhagat is the writer of some inspiring novels and Famous Indian Movie 3 Idiots. Chetan Bhagat is “The Biggest selling English Language novelist in India” according to the Newyork Times. This novel is about cricket,religion,business,Love and hate.
The novel starts with suspense. Writers talks that he gets a surprising Email at saturday morning. The Email is a suicide from a businessman. When Chetan Bhagat goes deeper to the email,he finds it was from a person named G Patel in Ahmadabad. He decides to get to Ahmadabad where the writer was from. He goes to Ahmadabad where he finds the email sender at the hospital after his unsuccessful suicide attempt. When Chetan asks him about his decision to die, first he hesitates to speak but later on he shares his feeling.
The main reason to die were the 3 mistake of G Patel’s Life. Govind Patel and his two friends Ishan and Omi decide to start a cricket shop which after success converts into a stationary and sports shop. Govind’s desire to upgrade the shop to a newly made mall,makes these three friends to collect some money and sanction a loan to pay for advance rent in a mall. Unfortunately unexpected Earthquake destroys the building and Govind’s Hope and make them to swim in a loan.Govind’s desperate descision to pay the advance was considered as the first mistake of Govind’s Life.
Govind was the most talented guy in Math. He scored even 100 at maths. This was the reason why he provided tuition to lot of students. In the same time his friend Ishan wanted him to make his sister good at maths for her medical entrance preparation. His tuition to Ish’s sister continues and with the pass of time the tuition teacher-student relation turns into love and the affection of love with its pace compells them to have sexual relation. When this relation was known to ISH,Govind thinks this to be second mistake of his life.
Ishan was good at cricket and he used to train students for cricket. One of his student had a great power to turn any bowl to six. He was a Muslim kid. He was liked by Ishan a lot. When a war was initiated within Hindus and Muslim,Omi’s mama and his group tries to kill Ali,who was the same best student of Ishan. Three of these try a lot to save Ali but unfortunately while trying to save the attract from Omi’s mama to Ali,Omi dies. later when the time came for Govind to save Ali,He thinks Omi’s death and fears to save Ali in the same kind.He becomes a bit late to save Ali and unfortunately Ali’s hand gets stroked and he now looses his ability to play good cricket.Govind Considers this as third big mistake of his life.
These three mistakes makes his weaker mentally and he decides to suicide.
This is a must read novel. It is a great hit of Chetan Bhagat, The novel reflects the community with discrimination and wars on the basic of caste and Creed.
